Marine Store Dealer are a four-piece formed in London, but who hail from Nottingham and Istanbul. Named after songwriter Gemma Upton’s ancestral family trade (she had both a Marine Store Dealer and a Dealer of Marine Stores in her family), she now deals in blistering guitars and urgent, raucous songs that blend nods to 70s punk, 80s romantics and 90s indie with a fresh take on cinematic dark pop, lyrically preoccupied with the human condition.
Their debut self titled album will be released this year, 2020.
lyrics
Decades hang in the space between us
Memories, memories made us
White noise, delay, decay this is a line I have drawn
I watch the war from afar
I watch the war without fear now
Make it new, make it new somehow
But nothing will ever change
Make it new, make it new somehow
The river never ran our way
The world didn’t stop (day after day after day)
And comes a time to lay still (the time is now)
I walk between the gold and blue (and all the colours fade)
I walk from east to west to be still (the time has come)
Make it new, make it new somehow
But nothing will ever change
Make it new, make it new somehow
The river never ran our way
