about

Gemma Louise Upton - Vocals, Guitar
Eray Çaylı - Drums
Martin Pearce - Bass, Keys, Vocals

Marine Store Dealer are a four-piece formed in London, but who hail from Nottingham and Istanbul. Named after songwriter Gemma Upton’s ancestral family trade (she had both a Marine Store Dealer and a Dealer of Marine Stores in her family), she now deals in blistering guitars and urgent, raucous songs that blend nods to 70s punk, 80s romantics and 90s indie with a fresh take on cinematic dark pop, lyrically preoccupied with the human condition.

Their first single as a group, Frame provides a glimpse into a modern world where oligarchs and influencers roam and individualism has swallowed any connection we have towards each other. It’s about having those few people you love, in a world of uncertainty and a fake normality.

Their debut self titled album will be released this year, 2020.

lyrics

Let us go, no country here for us
The vacant buildings, the love of none
You held yourself like a burning flame
I won’t leave you behind

I won’t leave you to stay another day
Where nothing means anything
Disguised as life behind a lens
Behaving as only the dead behave

Reaching for silence
Put your head underwater
Minute by minute
Hour on hour
See their bones breaking
With the grip on the camera
Waiting to exist

In a frame that seems to take the world away
Cause nothing means anything
Disguised as life behind a lens
Behaving as only the dead behave

They can read the signs
